About
I’m Michelle Fey, a Hawke’s Bay, based photographer with over 25 years of professional experience capturing people, places, and moments across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Born in Taranaki and raised in Hawke’s Bay from the age of two, this region has always been home. As a young adult I moved to Auckland, where my photography career began in 2000 as a Forensic Photographer with the New Zealand Police. After several years, I returned to Hawke’s Bay with my husband and our first child. I’ve been building my photography practice here ever since.
Photography has always been a passion, and over the years I’ve continued to learn, refine, and expand my skills, from weddings, newborns and portraits through to fine art landscapes and abstracts. My work has been recognised with multiple Gold, Silver Distinction, Silver, and Bronze awards, and I hold the title of Master of Photography with Distinction and Two Bars from the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP).
Today, my focus is on fine art landscapes and abstracts, all are created entirely in-camera using light and movement to blur the line between photography and painting. Each piece is carefully printed on museum-grade papers to last for generations.
From the quiet glow of dawn in Hawke’s Bay to the dramatic peaks of Fiordland, my work is about more than documenting a scene, it is art designed to inspire, calm, and connect.
