About

I'm Michelle Fey, a Hawke's Bay-based fine art photographer with over 26 years of professional experience capturing people, places, and moments across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Born in Taranaki and raised in Hawke's Bay from the age of two, this region has always been home. As a young adult I moved to Auckland, where my photography career began in 2000 as a Forensic Photographer with the New Zealand Police. After several years, I returned to Hawke's Bay with my husband and our first child. I've been building my photography journey here ever since.

Photography has always been a passion, and over the years I've continued to learn, refine, and expand my skills. Moving from weddings, through to newborns, children, families and yes, the occasional strong-willed animal, and now into fine art landscape and abstract photography. My work has been recognised with multiple Gold, Silver Distinction, Silver, and Bronze awards at the NZIPP Iris Awards, and I hold the title of Master of Photography with Distinction and Two Bars from the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP), the industry's leading professional body, and am an active member of the NZIPP Hawke's Bay chapter.

Today, my focus is on fine art photography prints, landscapes and abstracts created entirely in-camera using light and movement to blur the line between photography and painting. Each piece is carefully printed on museum-grade archival papers to last for generations.

From the quiet glow of dawn in Hawke's Bay to the dramatic peaks of Milford Sound and Fiordland, my work is about more than documenting a scene, it is art designed to inspire, calm, and connect.
